When there's a HIT whether a movie, music, book, or TV show, there's a saying "Everybody wants to be the first to do the second”. Copying is not illegal but they're all suspects. Rule of the thumb; it should not only surpass the original idea but also must crush comparisons and most of the time they miss that hit mark:
Books:
Lord of the Rings pursued by Eragon
Tolkien made sure that when he wrote the beginnings of his Lord of the Rings epic, no author in the future would escape its influence, yeah well and while some authors though catering elves, dwarves, and other difficult-named creatures have successfully part their storyline with Tolkiens (most of the time adding dragons, phoenixes, and vampires), there's always an exception, and I'm talking about Paolini's Inheritance Series (good lord, it was a trilogy first).
Beyonce's Irreplaceable pursued by Jordin Spark's Tattoo, Chris Brown's "With You", Ne-yo's "Go on Girl" and the latest addition which is Shontelle's "T-Shirt" I'm a music fan. Any genre as long as it suits my mood and radios back in 2007 wasn't much of a help. It was started by Irreplaceable with beats and drums so catchy it wasn't surprising it reached the summit of Hot 100. As though the producers were in disbelief why they haven't tackled this arrangement yet rushed to the floor as very obvious with Tattoo, With You, and Go On Girl.

Scary Movie pursued by Epic Movie, Dance Fick, Not another Teen Movie
When the spoof phenomenon busted in the scene of the late 90's, I was pretty entertained with the very first scary movie installment, the second so-so and the third, overrated. Teens are a powerful market today: Why not flood us with Spoof Movies and take the magic with overexposure? Shame on you Hollywood for letting this happen
TV Show:

American Idol pursued by America's Got Talent, Road to Stardom
Though I highly resist the urge to label Americans as Deluded, American Idol auditions still sends shiver down my spines: in a good laughable way. I think it’s what Entertainment's all about.
Naruto pursued by Bleach
Naruto; the name every kid, teens (and some childish adults) knows. He gives us hope, inspiration, and the power to find our destiny...but Bleach thought the same. The story is different and it tackles on spirits, demons, and other bad bout of souls and the reason why I didn't like Bleach was the obvious similarity of the main character's hair to Naruto's.

I've read Eragon because I'm a big Dragon's fan but to my dismal it was as though I'm reading McCaffrey, Tolkien, and Lucas in one book. I mean there’s nothing wrong with incorporating ideas where we got our inspiration but its bad when it’s so obvious (and the reader can tell). But I think Paolini's more inspired with Lord of the Rings because of some really painful similarities (e.g. Arya=LOTR's Arwen, anyone?)

I'm sure I wasn't the only one irate about this as evident with the song's chart performances (tattoo was #8 and with you #2)...And if we think that it's over, wait till you hear Shontelle's "t-shirt" but fortunately it's not receiving as much airplay as it would’ve been if the song have been released in the middle of 2007...New tunes please.

I like Cowell's judgments and mean as it may seem, he's actually doing these "hopeless" Americans a chance not to humiliate their selves more by letting them in the next stage, and he is realistic as hell. Then there's America's Got Talent, need I say more?

I mean I can feel the manga artist used the same "colored" hair (which is not native in Japan) into his character to tap into Naruto's already wide fan base...milking that trademark "hair" in short...
