Hanna and Why You Shouldn't Meet Her

Impatient with Immortals still not hitting the theatres in my city (and thoroughly shocked at how simply bad Breaking Dawn was), I was on the lookout for possible movie treats while waiting for the said Tarsem Singh directed film. My brother, who is a big fan of assassin-meets-espionage movies, suggested this film HANNA (Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana, and Cate Blanchett).

Hanna, Hanna Movie, Hanna Assassin
I was a bit skeptical at first seeing the movie cover, which shows a girl with a bow and arrow (looking dated as those women in Dancing with Wolves movie). Of course, my impression of the word 'spy' had been all about technology (this is your fault, James Bond). Not letting my initial disappointment faze me, I read the movie synopsis, and BAM!

A 16-year-old who was raised by her father to be the perfect assassin is dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent and her operatives.

After 111 minutes (yes, even the film length reeks of a secret code mission), I was simply reminded me of the old days when I dreamt of being an assassin someday (mixing the moves of Neo, the suave of James Bond, Jack Sparrow's humor and completed by The Transporter's swag). Here's why:

The Bad:

* I kind of wanted Hanna and her friend to patch things up in the end, which didn't happen.

* I simply want MORE!

The Good:

* Great story and excellent actors!

* The movie has a Heart; I could feel Hanna's struggle, dreams, and longing all throughout the film, which is saying something, as I rarely care what's gonna happen to my main characters

* Action scenes were carefully dissected into several believable parts to not overwhelm the audience (* cough, The Matrix Reloaded)

Grade:

A-

As heartless and cold Hanna is, you wouldn't help siding with her in her battles in finding the truth.
