So I was stranded like a beggar on the sidewalk (with an umbrella) unable to do more than wait for safety as the rain, the wind, and the lightning ravaged the earth like some kind of commissioned bulldozers on the loose. Don't get me wrong. I exactly liked my situation because I thought it was one of those moments worthy of a music video (I'm an MTV generation baby, so you will deal). The only thing missing? I had no earphones and I've got some of the best shoutout songs for that very moment in my iPod!
After whining for like 5 minutes (of why of all the damned situations I haven't brought the damned earphones that moment), I calmed down. The rain had gone heavier telling me I'd be stuck in there forever, and I needed to entertain myself. Tough times like this needs resourcefulness for the moment to be enjoyed. If I couldn't enjoy the actual music, why not play it inside my head?
I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing – Aerosmith
As soon as the opening orchestra started to play, my hair raised instantaneously. If you happen to watch Armageddon in the cinema, you'll remember you pretended to be waiting for the crowd to disperse when in fact you just wanna stay for the closing credit and for the the song to play (it's completely acceptable; it's cheesy, but the good kind, if I may add). I was singing the song but was forced to stop when it reached “I don't wanna close my eyes, I don't wanna fall to sleep:” Damn. Even in the imagination I couldn't sing the hell out of that song.
Apologize – One Republic
I happen to have finished mindsynching the song till the end because this is MY song (meaning I've rehearsed to this before and I thought I did it justice). The angst, the on-point falsetto, and Timbaland's impeccable production made this Top 40 juggernaut a staple among fools (formers and soon-to-be's) who have let their hearts blind their judgment for love's sake and then gets mad at the end. But I wasn't into that. The mere melody makes it a perfect rainy day shoutout song.
If You're Not the One – Daniel Bedingfield
By the time the flood water had started rising and this song was playing, I gotta admit reminisces were flooding in my mind. Remember those times when we really believed that someone was our destiny no matter how much people or the signs are telling us it's not gonna happen because that person (or in my case, that b*tch) was not SO into us?
I liked the song because if you're singing this, the rain's noise jamming property will let you sing your heart out without the risk of you sounding like a pathetic loser who's still hoping for some romantic miracle with that person (or in my case, that b*tch).
Just The Way You Are – Bruno Mars
As the 34th lightning strike ensued screams and instant ear coverings from the petty mortals stranded in the rain, the wind was blowing hard on my face when the song started to play. Its intro was so fittingly perfect that I needed to forgive the b*tch reminisced in the previous song just not to spoil the song's moment. The melody was so good I had to stop and hear if I was singing it audibly. I mean, c'mon. People around me were suffering from the cold and hunger, and I'm singing about telling a girl she need not change the way she is? How inconsiderate, right? I finished the song but was feeling dizzy after: Why did Bruno Mars made the chorus too high for the average dude to sing?
Wherever You Will Go – The Calling
Watch and listen, and you'd know what I mean.
As I was polishing the post, cutting the unnecessary ramblings and lessening the bitch word count, I realized one thing: I still haven't moved on, have I?
