I think it is of European influence as it screamed modern Greece to me. Those types you see on travel magazines featuring Santorini. I'm not crazy about the color palettes though. People want their summer bright and colorful, something the resort forgot to consider. The rooms are luxurious and styled bearing the resorts obsession with minimalist theme.
The Red Team
The expected self-consciousness, awkward cheering, and dead air conversation didn't come. And I realized it's with the type of people around you. Nothing felt so good than to let go of all the inhibitions and fear that have been infesting inside you and stagnating your inner cool-guy for years. I swear I have the coolest team in the world! We won first place in the activities with the least number of members. Beat that.
The Sand Bar
To get there, you either have to ride a boat or wait for the low tide. It isn't exactly a Moses-parting-the-sea experience but that didn't stop some of my team of going there. Too bad, the low in low tide wasn't Flo Rida's low as crossing the last leg towards the sand bar meant you needed to swim. Not everyone fancy a wet photo shoot, much more cursing a wet camera.
The Swimming Pool
While no one said it's gonna be wide as China's Olympic swimming pool, the resort's website presented its offering as though it could be a substitute to Tiger Woods' water estate. Imagine the dismay we felt seeing the swimming pool for the first time. Personally, it reminded me of the scene in one of NatGeo's documentaries where a group of Narwhals in the Arctic were trapped in an ice pool, clinging for life.
It was only a soft opening. I couldn't imagine the congestion when it's fully accessible to the pool-raping public.
On the good side, the best feature of the meek amenity is the slides. I had a blast with it, joining the children for countless times and trying different dive postures every time. Also, the shower rooms are well-maintained, clean, and the water coming out from the rain-like shower is warm and relaxing. Superb execution.
As I roamed around the place, I noticed patches of wild grasses and idle land areas waiting to be exploited. I heard the management will add another pool, bigger and deeper this time to these areas next year. I will definitely check it out, for I'm a seal and I want my pool deep, blue, and full of sharks.
On the plus side, service was fast, polite, and approachable. Will give the staff a 9 for that.
Overall, Best Western Sand Bar Resort is a paradise. With a little shake in the Food and Beverage department (it's too late to change that loooong name so I've given up), it could become the next big thing in Mactan, Cebu. I love the experience so much that soon I'll be pulling a Gen. McArthur because "I Shall Return."
